Long-awaited album announced
Last week Thursday, alternative hip-hop group Gorillaz announced their long-awaited album Humanz. With the album announcement, group members Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett also released a virtual reality video for their six-minute song Saturnz Barz (Spirit House).
The British virtual band partnered with Google Spotlight Stories to release the music video set to be released on April 28.
The video starts with you inside a train car while you’re watching Saturnz Barz on a smartphone. And then things get surreal! In true Gorillaz style, be prepared to be entertained and engrossed while encountering strange and bizarre characters. Gorillaz fans are gonna love this experience!
Most successful debut of a VR music video on YouTube history
The video was viewed more than three million times in its first 48 hours making it the biggest debut for a VR music video in YouTube’s history. It has since been watched nearly six million times. There is also a 2D version of the video which has been viewed almost 16 million times!
This one is a must! Crazy and bizarre, yes! But definitely a must!
